some crabbers put gutterguard in thier baitwells to make the bait last longer as well
That is especially true when using shrimp heads. Keeps the eels and pinfish from stealing bait, but must be kept clean to work right. I know some guys who used to drill holes into cold cream cups then pack and freeze chummed shrimp heads. They could crab on that in the spring for about 4 days, then switch out.
