i read that in the chesapeake that female crabs only average about 3 to 5 broods during a life span due to crabbing pressure and the declining environment.  Undecided

Which actually a good number of offspring,if 15 to 20 % survive and return back to the bays, sounds, and rivers. The problem is the female has a short life span (well so do males). I forgot where it was in the forum, but most crabs (juvenile) shed like once or twice a month increasing their size by 1 to 2" each time. Females stop growing once mature which could 3", the point they making is to insure that all females produce offspring not matter the size, even though smaller produce less numbers. So why if they know all this info, why do they still allow guys to keep sponges from Va south???

The harvest of females is the critical issue in blue crab population management.

Well, I got an order for another 1200' line, and since I usually make 2 at a time, I can make another 1200' if somebody wants it.  Send me a bmail.
