NJ regs don't mention the # of trots you can work...however,be careful, there are a number of locations in NJ that are banned to ANY type of comm pot or trotline....down in the Dividing creek/Beaver Dam area is one....my advice?call your local NJ State Police Barracks...the work closely with the NJ Fish and Game Commission, they'll fill you in...its the NJ State Police that actually patrol the waters off the NJ coast.....and if they catch illegals, you will be fined....seen it many times with ignorant slobs who don't research the regs....have fun,be well, good luck.....Rick

"NJ regs don't mention the # of trots you can work"
That is not exactly true, at least for the recreational crabber.
NJ regs require a person to have a recreational crab pot/trot line license to use Maryland style crab pots or the 150 trot line. A recreational crab pot or trot line license permits the use of EITHER two Maryland style crab pots OR two 150 foot 25 bait trot lines. My understanding is that you could also have one pot and one trot line, but you are LIMITED TO TWO. at least that is my understanding, anyway, it specifically states on the license that "no person shall fish more than two pots or two trot lines not exceding 150 feet..." and it also requires that the trot lines shall be marked with the license number. License is free, but NJ does require a paper work fee of $4 I believe, got my license back in Jan. 05 along with my recreational clamming license ($10) and don't remember for sure if it was $4 or not.

Hi all, so if I want to run a trot, I need to get a License?
Can't be more that 150 ft long?
What about a non-resident?

Get a non-resident license. Can be found on the site with the resident license.
