Just Rip It...

« on: June 23, 2008, 10:41:29 AM »

I've been hearing bad reports about the Navasink River, Next Sunday is our annual crabbing trip in Red Bank. One of my friends who lives on the Navasink called us this past weekend and said the crabs arent really running yet and also a few weeks ago they found dead fish in the water which he believes it had to do with a bacteria. The storms have flushed all that out but i hope the crabs start hitting soon.

I saw the last two posts for the Navasink, anyone have anymore recent ones?

Thanks guys.

Also what were the rates again for Sea Land, being that it is under new ownership ?

There was a huge algae bloom two weeks ago or so.  That may have been to blame.

There was a post from May 10th...looks like the rates are $45 for a row boat and $65 for a motor.
Crabbing so close to the marina, kinda silly to pay for the motor.
Good Luck, looking forward to the report. Been there many times last year, looking for the reports to get better before I travel 2 hrs and gas.

I was there 2 weeks ago, did see a lot of dead fish in the water - thought that was strange.  Crabbing was absolutely horrible then (see my post).

$45/65 is correct.  The only drawback is that they open way too late, in my opinion (7AM).

I do hope it turns around - this is one of the closest places to go from where I live.

Took a ride there today with the kids  couple of people had just come in with about 36- 38 decent keepers, owner said day before someoe had 42   only problem is they now open at 8am weekdays, new owners did fix the place up its now called red  bank marina rates are 45 and 75 due to gas prices  Might give it a try monday

I don't understand the need to bump up the price due to gas.....?  The motors are electric.

8AM on weekdays?  That's ridiculous.  I guess if I take a day off from work, I won't be going out there.

What's wrong with starting at 8AM?  I would plan for the tides, and not time of day.

Regardless of tide, I've always experienced the best crabbing early.  Don't know why that is....

And I guess if I'm paying for a boat, I want to get the most use out of it.

Well its good to see things are turning around with the crabbing regardless of how early they open. haha but i did just tell my old man that they open at 8am on the weekdays and out of a semi deep sleep he woke up and said "WHAT time do they open!!!?" haha priceless, good thing we're going on the weekend ( do they still open at 7am on saturday and sunday?)
But now my only concern with the bacteria talk and the algae talk, are the crabs gonna be good to eat??
Awesome though the crabbing is picking up. Thanks for the input guys.

I was there 2 weeks ago on a Sat, and they opened at 7.  Frustrating though, as the dude that took my money told me I had to wait for the helpers to arrive (his kids?) to give me my oars.

Yes i believe late June early July is good timing for some reason. Have gone in August in the past. Pretty decent but not as good as June-July.

Weather still not looking good for Sunday haha.

July 15th we'll be going to our spot in Brick. Remember Starcks Landing i was talkin about last year? Always do good on the Mateetakonk River. cant wait.
