Dave

If you only have a few traps, I have a solution to prevent crab theft.  I had same problem with the three traps I had in Florida. I solved it by tying the marker float to a concrete block, than I tied the trap to the block with enough line on it so I could empty trap with block on bottom of creek.
When anyone pulls line in to check trap, they get a big muddy block near the surface and immediately drop it in disgust.
When I pull line in, I bring block up enough to snatch line going to trap, than drop block , and pull in a trap full of crabs.

Its amazing how many crabs there are in traps when they are unmolested, even the act of pulling the trap to see whats in it causes crabs to go into escape mode.

The block also serves to anchor the trap in the location you set it in.

WELL,,SEEMS THAT THE NEON ZIP TIES WORKED!!!!! NOBODY TOOK MY CRABS.ENDED UP WITH 18 KEEPERS ON A 33 HOUR SOAK..NOT GOOD BUT NOT BAD.AT LEAST I WASN'T PULLING EMPTY POTS THIS TIME. thumbsup

BLOCKS ARE A REALLY GOOD IDEA!!!! A LITTLE HARD TO DO WITH 4 POTS AND A LITTLE 16 FOOT SKIFF. I BELIEVE THAT IF I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT MUCH BS TO CATCH SOME CRABS FOR SUPPER I MIGHT AS WELL NOT GO.IT NEVER EVEN ENTERS MY MIND TO PULL SOMEBODY'S POTS,,,PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE MORE RESPECT!! A LOCAL DNR OFFICER WAS AT THE BOAT RAMP WHEN I CAME IN AND I ASKED IF ANYONE HAD COMPLAINED OF THE SAME THING,,AND FROM WHAT I GATHERED, CRABBING IS REALLY BAD HERE THIS YEAR SO I GUESS PEOPLE ARE PULLING OTHER PEOPLES POTS INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE FISH MARKET? HOPE THEY CATCH THEM hanged
