Went to Jellyfish Fields uhhh I mean the Choptank River Fishing Pier yesterday (sometimes I didn't know if I was crabbing or jellyfishing  Grin). Was by myself because my dad couldn't come Sad . Went with 20 topless traps and 5 ring nets with chicken necks. Crabbed from 10 am to 5 pm with the tide comming in. Caught 58 nice ones. Most were between 5 1/4" to 6". About 7 over 6" the largest being 6 3/4". All were F A T and H E A V Y!!!! A very good day.

If all of the crabs I caught were legal I would have had 2 bushels. For every 6 I caught I had 3 or 4 throwbacks. Most were small males. Hopefully this is a good sign. I can't remember seeing this many small crabs in a long time. Lets hope they all grow up healthy.

The last time I went, a month a go, I only caught 15. You know I was very happy with this catch.

Thats interesting.  We have been wondering were all the Jellies were.   I hate when they get here.  You get them all over ya while handling the pots.

Sounds like you had a great day for sure..  thumbsup

I alway intend to take my camera with me and it always gets forgotten. I haven't had much luck lately so there wasn't a reason to take a camera until now. I will try to remember next time. I think I am going to go again on Sunday. Got to get some time in before I have to go back to school in a couple of weeks.

Hey MarySue,
Way to go. I always looked forward to your posts last year. I too was land locked. Because of gas this year I haven't been down once. Appx 3 hours one way. However in a few weeks I'll be heading out in my boat. I've been waiting for them guys to head north and it seems they've made it. I can get down and back to the Elk, Bo, Bush, and GP on a tank of gas, plus gas has been dropping nicely around here. Hopefully I'll have as good of a day in about 10 days. Thanks for the post, and take some peanut butter next time. laugh

Anyone can catch crabs.  But to catch that many without burning any gas is just super.  Congrats and enjoy.

Glad to hear you are mobile now. One day I will save up enough to get one too. For now I stick to the pier. Good luck with you boat and happy hunting!!

PS Do crabs eat peanut butter??? You know I'll use almost anything as bait if it will attract the crabs to the trap. Maybe if they eat the peanut butter they will get stuck to the trap and not be able to move.  Grin

Nice job!I was wondering when you would post your reports this year.

I haven't been out much this year. Up until July I hadn't been much and when I did go I usually didn't catch anything.  This past weekend was the first chance that I had to go in a long time. I think the last time I posted a report was sometime in June because I hadn't been crabbing since then. In July my husband came home from a 15 month deployment in the Middle East. There were other things to do so crabbing had to wait. We traveled a lot. Even went to Disney World for the first time.
