8/25 CRABBING IN THE GREAT BAY, HANDLINING WITH WINGS, LINE TIGHTENS UP LIKE A BOWSTRING. AT FIRST I SUSPECT A LARGE EEL WHICH COMMONLY PICK UP MY BAITS BUT THEN IT SURFACES THRASHING VIOLENTLY.NOW I'M THINKING STRIPER, BUT THEN I SPOT THE DORSAL AND REALIZE I HAVE A VERY DETERMINED SHARK ABOUT 4' LONG. SHARK MAKES A COMPLETE CIRCLE AROUND THE BOAT AND I'M THINKING MAYBE MY CLIP SPRUNG OPEN AND HE'S ACTUALLY HOOKED , THEN HE RIPS THE WING OFF AND HE'S GONE. 50 YEARS OF CRABBING, FIRST TIME I EVER HAD A SHARK PICK UP A BAIT. SPIECIES UNDETERMINED.

I would have tried to land it.  laugh laugh laugh

We were chumming for rockfish several years ago out at love point ((north end of kent Island)
I was washing off the wooden cutting board of fish guts from cutting chum and a big fish of some sort hit the bottom of the boat and then knocked the board out of my hand... all I can say is it was at least 7 foot long or so.  That was the year it was really dry and the bay very salty and there were two reports that year of pound netters catching two sharks at the bay bridge within the same month...  a bull shark and tiger shark...in the 300-400 lb range... I really believe it was a shark that dragged across the bottom of the boat and knock the board out of my hand.. I jumped back and didn't want to know what it was..

1989 i was surfing off 9th st oc.it was 800pm.somthing grabed my board leash.and pulled me hard to the left for about 12 ft to 15 ft.didnt see any dolfin.didnt see any skate.wasnt any drift wood that i could see.im convinced it was a bull shark.my leash,s colar was chartrous[yelow].had some skeeter bites on my legs trying to let the salt water get to that i was picking.im thinking i was chum.sold my boards that night.later that sumer up on the long peir.drinking with a freind who worked on the peir.we watched a 10 12 footer shadow cruiseing past the breaks.heading twords the surfing beach.just shaking my head now.for extra money i make megladon tooth necklases.i pull them off the beach at calvert cliffs.goggle it.they are gods of a sort.sharks judge you.i passed that day.not sure if i,ll pass their judgment again.iv only swam in tidal waters 2 times since then.

you were lucky longbeard. My shark was only after a wing  , yours if it was a "BULL" could have taken a leg or more!!
