It's says that 9" is the historic record from the delaware bay, not the world record.  However it does suggest that it is the world record.  It says the NJ record is 8 1/2".  If you read the article you will understand.

By the way Timaeus if a 9" or 10" crab is so common where you live then just take a camera and a ruler with you next time you go and snap a photo.  Easy right?  You can still eat it just take the pic first, no big deal.  Once you show us the evidence people will believe you and this all will stop.

And about the whole "we crab for food, not for pleasure" thing.  No one is stopping you from eating it, we just want to stop and take 2 minutes to take a picture.  Don't forget the ruler.

This all should be very easy for you considering you said you catch one that big every time out.  Unless of course your lying Roll Eyes  Grin Grin

I laugh if anyone honestly believes the world record blue crab is 9".

I caught half a dozen larger than that this month alone.
I caught about a bushel larger than that this week, I just forgot to take a picture with a ruler for proof.  Cheesy

All you guys up north having to use trotlines, nets and such to catch the mumbos.
Northerners have a reputation of being a little cantakerous, a guess even the crabs are affected.

Down here in the south, we tend to be a little more easy going.
I found out this morning if I just walk out with my bushel basket,
put it on the beach with a little ramp on it,
then stand there and thump on the beach with a walking stick in a 2 2 beat
those mumbos just walk right out of the surf, up the ramp and into the bushel basket.
And 9"? pshaw! these guys are so big they will only fit two per layer in the basket and thats if they fold their claws up nice and tight!
I tried taking pictures, but it so hot here, that the heat distorts all the images.

Guys, I really did not think I would get that many responses to my post.  But, for you guys that claim you catch 10' crabs ... I am asking you please take a picture of one ... I have never seen a crab nearly that big.

So it's out there, if you don't post a picture than don't tell me you got one.  We still have weeks of prime crabbing left so put your money where you mouth is ?

P.S. - Several years ago while crabbing I met a gentleman in Tuckerton, NJ.  The man was boasting of a 11' crab he had just caught.  When I looked into his bucket I could immediately tell the crab was not that big.  BUT, it did measure out at 9' ... the rest of his crabs were all 4.5 inches (which is th NJ legal size).  So what happened is this nice size crab (which was almost twice the size of the others) created a obsticle illusion because of the smaller crabs that were around it.  Just some food for thought.

OK I'll probably get flamed for this but....  fireman I think half the fun of hunting and fishing is the stories that you tell your buddies. I'm not talking about flat out lies but everyone streches the truth a little here and there. People on here that are clearly just trolling should be ignored but if a guy gives a report and says he caught a 9" crab and he doesn't post a picture everyone jumps down his throat and demands a picture. That's a real good way of encouraging people to post their reports and to share their information about where they are catching crabs. It's not like we are handing out $50 bills every time someone catches a 9" crab or anything. Personally I can only think of two people on this site that have claimed to catch 10" crabs lately and they were both clearly trolling and trying to strike a nerve. I just think everyone needs to relax a little, and remember any story about fishing that hasn't had the truth streched a little is probably not worth hearing anyway.  hanged

Good points IM.  You have to realize, people love to jump down each other's throats on boards like this.  Thats why a lot of people don't post much anymore.  They learned that the more they say, the more they get questioned and badgered.  If I posted that I caught 10 bushels of crabs in 2 hours on a wednesday, and I started at 5:22 am, nobody would say anything about the crabs, they'd all point out that I started 1 minute to early, and at least 5 people would ask "do you have a commercial license" and someone would say "you can't crab on a wednesday" etc, etc, etc wall

IM & Seaweed,

This post is directed at those two people & maybe they got the reaction they were looking for.

IM - Maybe I am in the minority but I want the truth about sizes,  if I wanted to read some non-sense I would buy a children fiction book on Monster Mumbo's.  I thought this website was Blue Crab Info not Blue Crab Stories.

As for the people who post reports regularly, I think most people are very good.
