CrabDog,  very nicely said & I agree with you.  I just have never seen a crab that big (10") and figured if someone had,  they might be so gracious as to let me see it. Wink

Why can't Timaeus respond ?

Joe Crabs, now someone could call that 9 3/4 a 10 incher and I'd have no problems with that.

If you use Paint under microsoft it's called Invert Colors. It distinguishes the various objects in the picture through different colors. The ruler always creates an illusion of size because of the place where the ruler is placed and is usually 1/4 " off it's appearance because most people angle the ruler when it's alive, or when they especially run a tape over the back. The best way to get the correct measurement is to have one point set against a block on at least one side or both if you have a calliper that big. The colors make it very easy to see the actual markings and in this case you can see the ruler is slanted and does not meet the left point facing you. The person who took it actually measured it correctly at 9 3/4 as he called it, but used this picture with the ruler just for a background. Just trying to educate you my friend. Roll Eyes Wink Grin

I think the point of this post is anything close to 9" is rare now.  I've only seen one in person in all my years crabbing.  But my Dad told me he used to get 8 and 9 inch crabs on a regular basis back in the 50's.  I believe Jimmycrab and of course JoeCrabs who has the picture to prove it, that there have even been 10" crabs, or close to it.  But I've never caught one or seen one.  My biggest catch was an 8 3/4, with maybe two dozen or so over 8".   And I've caught a lot of crabs.  Not as many as some on here, but a lot.  Maybe there are still some monsters out there somewhere, but not on a regular basis.  Not in New Orleans or Florida or Texas or anywhere else.  You have a better chance of being struck by lightning than to catch a 10" crab today.  If you have, congratulations!  Consider yourself lucky and go buy a $3 disposable camera at Walgreen's to show your kids and grandkids, cause you'll almost certainly never see another one in your lifetime.  And just for kicks, post it on here too.  I know everyone on here including me, would love to see it.  Peace Out and happy crabbin'. -The Kev Man   Cool
