Water gets cold ,crabs go away. Find the warm water and you will find the crab.

dropping off trotlines? this is my first crab season  Late in the season, the water temperature starts to drop, and the water clears. When that happens, some of the crabs will not come to the surface on trotline baits. Some people say its because they feel the difference in the tempearture, and drop off to stay in the warmer, deeper water. You see some people switching to traps, which catch the crab on the bottom.

I think they do, most of the ones I catch in December are in wheelchairs, they still have their claws but there is always a toadfish in the trap with them. I think the toadfish is pushing the chair........
