I agree, it denotes a complete lack of understanding or familiarity with the concepts. Our children are not being taught or expected to adhere to the generally accepted rules of the English language. IM-speak is more the norm - "you know what I meant" is the excuse.

I guess I'm voicing the same lament that has been heard through the ages - "the world is going to heck in a handbasket and the kids today are hopeless".

Seems we only catch the odd stuff when it's just me and Old Grouchy, never when the child is with us. She must scare them all away.

Did have a snake swim straight at us once at the landing. Understand, she's downright petrified of snakes. She'd just gotten in the boat off the bulkhead, was standing on the tiny front deck of the sardine can and looked up and saw the snake. "AH! AH! Snake!" Arms start wheeling, feet dancing, and I'm hanging on for dear life, sure we're going to flip right over before this is over. Snake just calmly swum on by between the boat and the bulkhead and went on about its business. She wasn't too sure about reaching for the traps the rest of the day - kept an eye out for her serpentine nemesis.

Quick grammar lesson 125 Blackfire (and anyone else who needs reminding)

your denotes possession - as in "Is that your crab net?"

you're is a contraction of you are - this denotes state of being - "You're a turtle magnet". If you can use the words "you are" in the sentence to convey your meaning, then you're fine using you're.

OK - this concludes todays visit from the grammar police!

thanks i know your only trying too help
but don't talk about only catching odd things...the past two weeks i have caught at my local boat ramp the following
3 anchor lines (good 20 ft each heavy suckers too about an inch around)
1 half of a fishing pole reel still on it

1 topless crab trap
1 4ft long crab net that i am currently repairing all i need is a new net and scrub it down a little more and I'm good
2 socks full of sand
1 shorts
2 rags

Sounds like you've got quite the treasure hunt going there!

A couple suggestions: (see the quote)

There's that your-you're thing again. Re-read my post to see what you should have used.

To, too, and two. All sound alike (homonyms - remember them?) - have different meanings.

Too - use the same as also - means in addition to. Example -  Italian Mule went crabbing Sunday. Crabbin4fun was there too.

Two - the number 2. Example: I have two cats, which each have two eyes and two ears.

To - use everywhere else - denotes movement, direction, action, contact, purpose or intention, possession and a myriad of other things. Examples: I am going to the store. This piece belongs to that puzzle. When you get past the bridge, turn to the right.

We'll leave capitalization and punctuation to another day. Otherwise - pretty good - much better than you have been doing!
