Gear: 25 Open Top Traps

# of different Spots: Just one

Time traps in Water: 8:00 AM

Time Traps out of Water: 2:30 PM

# of Crabs Kept: 1 Bushel + about 3 dozen

Smallest Crab Kept: 5 1/2"

Largest Crab Kept: 8"

# of Females caught and released: less than a half dozen

# of Light males or Short Males Released: Less than a dozen

Depth of Water: 12-18FT

Crew: 2 plus the Captain

Oddities caught on this trip: Three Horseshoe crabs

What an awesome day on the water. Very little wind to speak of until around 2PM. Water temps around 57 degrees. Air temp in the mid 60's. 95% of the crabs were 6 1/2" or bigger and black bottomed. Got to meet suzyq52 and her husband. What a great couple they are, I enjoyed our conversation tremendously. The day turned out exactly as I hoped it would. I even steamed the crabs perfectly this time. For the first time in my life I cleaned some crabs before I steamed them. I only did 10 so we could try them. I liked them a lot but not as much as our Maryland traditional way and it's a lot of work if you have a lot of crabs. Especially after a long day on the water. Bottom two pictures show the total amount of crabs we caught they all wouldn't fit in one basket so I split them up. I just couldn't get over how nice of a day it turned out to be after the foul weather we had on Saturday.  2thumbsup

We did two more runs then packed up after we saw you - getting too windy for us and hey - we had enough crabs! Old Grouchy is picking some now for the soup I've got on.

The weather looks promising for friday. We may try and give it another shot then. Will have to be a short trip, because the child wants to come and she has to work friday night. We might be greeting trick-or-treaters while steaming crabs. No - don't come to my house thinking I'll dump a steamed crab into your trick-or-treat bag!

I will be over to hand out candy to all of your trick or treaters for you, that way you won't be disturbed while staming up those crabs... course I could always sample a few to make sure they are OK....  Roll Eyes

I may put some catnip on the windowsill to entice my black cat to sit up there - how's that for seasonal decor?

That's my buddy Gregg in the photo. It took a lot of goading from me just to get him to hold the damned thing with the tongs for the Photo. I doubt he'd ever believe me if I told him he could hold it and not get bit.  laugh

Dad wants to give it a go this week. Right now Thursday or Friday looks like the best bet.
