I am 46 years old. As my user name states, I am home sick for crabbing. It has been many many years since I have went crabbing (real crabbing). Last year we vacationed near Garden City SC. I tried my hand at crabbing with my children (ages 7 and Cool. It was a bust, to say the least. When I was around the ages of my 2 children, I lived in the New Bern NC area. My fondest memories were crabbing and flounder gigging. I remember as a child how long the drive to Atlantic Beach seemed to be. "Are we there yet" used to be the norm and I probably started saying it 3 miles from home.
The few crabs that we caught in SC last year didn't even measure as legal. I know in time things change but I remember bringing home a wash tub full of crabs from the beach after a day of crabbing. These crabs could have devoured the little SC crabs from last year. I also remember being scared to death flounder gigging, at night, when the water was waist deep to my dad but armpit deep to me.
Anyway, I would like for my children to experience some of what I did when I was a child. But I need some helpful information if anyone can guide me in the right direction.
1- When would be the best time of year to plan a vacation centered around the best crabbing time in the area?
2- Do good crabbing and flounder gigging seasons coincide with each other?
3- Can anyone recommend an area or a particular place to stay that would be close to a good crabbing or flounder area? (Beach House, Cabin, or even Motel/Hotel)
I was a child when I was doing these things, so I do not know the area very well. Any information would be greatly appreciated. It would save a lot of our vacation time. Also, as you know, children bore quite easily. If I were to wing it, it may risk turning them off to a fun family event.
Now that I have written a book here, I will finish by saying Thank You to those who have taken the time to read my message and once again, any information I would appreciate greatly.

Hey homesic, I am in Oriential. I have started doing  do crab charters  Both Commercial (shaking Pots) Or rec. ( fish on a string}. I also take sportfishing charters. Right next to my dock there are  waterfront rental cabins. Best time for crabs is usually august. They seem to come to the beach hard during the hot months. Then if you dont charter me and my boat you still can have a good go at scooping them off the pilings in the marina. Pm me if you are interested in cabins or charters or both.

homesic, welcome to the forum. You may want to follow this link and send a personal message to Marysue about the Choptank River pier.
It's good crabbing and you're not too far from Ocean City, Md. when you get tired of crabbing.

I am leaving for my 14(COLD Cry) day hitch on the Oil Rig. I just wanted to let everyone know how helpful you have been with the vacation info. I have received so far. I am writing another post about possibly relocating to your area. So check it out and maybe I can even be advised on that subject also. Thanks again!

My father used to take me crabbing at Vancouver BC.
That's how we spent family time by doing some family crabbing.
We sold the boat because nobody was interested in taking over.
Now I go back there at times to take a vacation for rest and relaxation after a few months of travelling due to work.
