I am 46 years old. As my user name states, I am home sick for crabbing. It has been many many years since I have went crabbing (real crabbing). Last year we vacationed near Garden City SC. I tried my hand at crabbing with my children (ages 7 and

. It was a bust, to say the least. When I was around the ages of my 2 children, I lived in the New Bern NC area. My fondest memories were crabbing and flounder gigging. I remember as a child how long the drive to Atlantic Beach seemed to be. "Are we there yet" used to be the norm and I probably started saying it 3 miles from home.
The few crabs that we caught in SC last year didn't even measure as legal. I know in time things change but I remember bringing home a wash tub full of crabs from the beach after a day of crabbing. These crabs could have devoured the little SC crabs from last year. I also remember being scared to death flounder gigging, at night, when the water was waist deep to my dad but armpit deep to me.
Anyway, I would like for my children to experience some of what I did when I was a child. But I need some helpful information if anyone can guide me in the right direction.
1- When would be the best time of year to plan a vacation centered around the best crabbing time in the area?
2- Do good crabbing and flounder gigging seasons coincide with each other?
3- Can anyone recommend an area or a particular place to stay that would be close to a good crabbing or flounder area? (Beach House, Cabin, or even Motel/Hotel)
I was a child when I was doing these things, so I do not know the area very well. Any information would be greatly appreciated. It would save a lot of our vacation time. Also, as you know, children bore quite easily. If I were to wing it, it may risk turning them off to a fun family event.
Now that I have written a book here, I will finish by saying Thank You to those who have taken the time to read my message and once again, any information I would appreciate greatly.
