Hey all. My dad and I went down to the Choptank Pier on Sat. We met two people who are on the board, John and Kevin. (I am terrible with remembering names. I hope I got that right.) Nice guys. They were down there trying out the place for the first time I believe. Hope that they caught some!! As for us we were down there from sun up until about 3pm. Tide was comming in for a little while in the early A.M. then slooowly going out the rest of the day. We ended up with 47 crabs mostly mediums. My dad did catch a 7" one. No lite ones. Lots of female throwbacks. A very good catch and a nice day. I took pictures of the catch but none on the pier. I forgot to take my camera again. I have to get one just for crabbing and put it in my crabbing bag. Again my dad pulled up way more then I did. He memorized the traps that were steady catching and then makes sure that he pulls up those traps. I didn't know what he was up to until I noticed that when we would get close to certain traps he would skip some and tell me to check them so he could to check the others. Then I realized what he was doing.

The crabs are out deeper. Don't waste your time near land. Go out at least half way to the middle of bridge. How many traps did you have? I had 28 traps. If you want to catch a decent number you have to have a lot of traps.

How many feet of rope do you need on your traps when crabbing the choptank bridge?

I would suggest that you buy the 50' rope. it is about 25' from the bridge to the water in some spot and then about 4-6ft to the bottom. Plus you will want to have some rope to wrap around the bridge. Good Luck.

Thanks Joe. I don't think that we are going to see too many more of them this year. Next week I am planning on going probably for the last time I think.

One thing I learned Michele, never say never again, the last time I said that in the 3rd week of October, I went back out with CrabbyD on 11/7 and we got 1 1/4 bushels still in the river. It was like 38 degrees in the morning. You know the saying it ain't over till it's over.
