i see sevral 10" crabs every year in louisiana.  it's not that uncommon down here.
Let me put this as delicately as I can.  Warning on! Post the pic with a ruler clearly showing the lenght of your 10+ inch crab or shut up about it.  Warning off!

I trust your loyalty PM, but I have tracked down more than one over 10 inch crabs in Va.  Everyone that had a ruler put on it did not measure up..  Sad I had a really good lead last summer.  Told Tat about it and hoped to get it mounted.   More than one guy swore it was easily over 10 inches, out on Tangiers, but it was not. Someday I hope to see a 10+ crab before I go to the big crabb'en ground in the sky..

Jack and friends, about that supposed 11" crab, well, my buddy kinda started to come though on the request to see this crab and I still think it is legit.  And, I found out, he is one of the PhDs at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences or VIMS in Gloucster. VA.  He says the crab is in their visitor center there now and folks can stop in to see it and measure it or whatever. Being the pain in the a$$ that I am, I asked him to get another picture with a ruler on it.  He sent a couple pictures of newspaper articles about the crab that are very blurry.  I'm resizing some of this [curd] now.  Just had to follow up on this.  Looks like Pete and Rich are doing better taxidermy/crab work than whoever was doing their stuff back in the day.  Check it out, comment, and I'll post the other stuff in a sec.  Then, I'll post the ruler pic when I get it, but, he says it is there for anyone to come and see.  It supposed to be 11 by way of the paper and what he is saying.  So, we'll see.  Still the biggest crab I have heard of that "might" be legit... he musta been using a 10 megapixel camera 'cuz resizing these is a pain... I had to save as a .png file to post and the pics are small  Undecided

The VIMS is part of William and Mary College... this is a pic where he tried to use sunglasses to show the size... I knew this would be a hit here in the realm where we need empirical evidence to substantiate a claim  laugh laugh laugh scientists, gheeeesh, I guess when they ain't workin' they don't feel like measuring those ocean going critters  laugh laugh laugh hoping for more and hope someone is nearby that can check this one out  Wink

Undecided Blurry but this one says the claw-span on this guy was 22 inches.  Sounds kinda reasonable but I'd have guessed 24 or better.  The previous record, prior to this crab was from the James River and as you'll see from the next article, this one came from the Potomac supposedly...
