When does slack tide actually occur?  When do the tides start moving again?  How long does slack tide normally last?

For instance if the low tide is at 8:00 am and high tide is at 12:00pm

slack is in between tides....sometimes it seems to take forever for the tides to turn around..with wind and such....last tuesday tide turned to come in and wind was blowing against it and it seemed like the tide never came in...in my opinion the last 2 hours of each tide are the best..tomorrows tide is going to produce well for me.

I agree, tomorrow should be a really good moving tide, after today's storms its going to be quiet and beautiful day.  Good luck on your trip FP

Woops forgot your question, taken from wikipedia;

"The moment that the tidal current ceases, is called slack water or slack tide. Then the tide reverses direction and is said to be turning. Slack water usually occurs near high water and low water. But there are locations where the moments of slack tide differ significantly from those of high and low water."

And if your looking for current tide information for your area look here.

Tide = vertical measurement of water movement

current = horizontal measurement of water movement

slack tide and slack current don't always occur at the same time although we like to refer to slack current as slack tide!!!  wall

The tide never stops.  It just reverses direction. Slack tide is slang for the time that tide current is not apparent.  It varies greatly with the body of water.  A large area might seam like the water has stopped.  In a small area, like a small mouth of a creek that feeds a huge tidal marsh there will be very little "slack tide" (current).
