hey if you raise it to $5 maybe we could do a 1st, 2nd, 3rd.. type thing.... just a thought..split the pot accordingly.. so much for 1st, then little less for 2nd and a bit for 3rd..give more folks a chance to win...

Tattoo saw and mounted our biggest crab this year! Not that it was in the running.....

$5.00 or $10.00 seems reasonable. Tattoo - make sure you take out any expenses you incur!

Just a thought.  Why don't we up the stakes to $5 or $10 and donate half of the total to the website?  The only reason we are able to have the contest is all because of this website bringing everyone together.

I don't think that $5.00 is too much and will break anyone that's interested in participating. As far as having 2nd and 3rd place finishers, might invoke a larger amount of participants because of the chance of having a runner up winner to shoot for, thus making a larger pot in the end. That decision can be left up to the governing council and whatever is determined will be fine by me.

If people pay $5.00, all they have to do is not get a footlong from subway for one day and its paid for.  Make it at least 5.

$5 with 1st/2nd/3rd.  The 1st loser (2nd place) doubles their money $10 & the 2nd loser gets their $5 back...  That still leaves a nice fat pot for the winner.

I did not go through the archives to research this but I think this contest got started when a different one for the first 10 inch crab fee (wager) got way, way high. I think this one was just to put a fun incentive into crabbing this year.

Being from the state where "there are no crabs", I conceded from the beginning that my chances to win were slim to none. I figured, what the [Sam Hill], It's only $2 bucks and it would add a little excitement to pulling traps.

I am not sure that I would put in $10 with those odds. I would think that here are probably more out there with the same opinion. Of course this is only my opinion. I wish to start no wars.
