No. Lest anyone forget my personal experience a few years back with old bait, when the crabs
smelled
and
tasted
like rotten chicken even after a thorough steam bath in J.O. #2 Whole batch had to be dumped! What a waste!!!
NEVER EVER USE ROTTEN BAIT. PERIOD.
Unless of course you like the smell and taste of rotten chicken. Then go right ahead.
PS: You're right Shoov. If there's anyone here who knows sh$$,... it's Jack.
I have used rotten bait before, and never had a problem of them tasting bad. Did you put your bait in your bushel basket with the crabs?

Nope. Just got lazy. Took my father-in-law out 3 days in a row with the same bait. First two days were fine. It was so bad by the third day that whatever they ingested of it was enough to make them smell and taste just like the rotted meat. Don't do it. Sooner or later, you'll regret it. Trust me. Course those were back in the days when we cable tied in all 30 pieces to the traps(before springs). Took forever to bait and unbait all 30, so we figured, "Ah, what the heck. They'll eat anything anyway." Again, just lazyness, or trying to save a trip to the store and a couple bucks. Take your pick. Well, the moral to the story is: They ate. And we didn't. Lesson learned.

Can't nothin hold a candle to bad clams though. NOTHIN'! Had to use the OSHA respirator for the ones I forgot in my other boat cooler for a week and a half. Never thought anything could be worse than chicken-but it IS! Thought about just tossing the cooler, but I let it soak in bleach for a week and it wasn't too bad.
