The crabs in the Pamlico Sound aren't very tastey in the summer months, due to the high salt content, they have an iodine taste to them. The old times say the eel grasses cause this... Come up to the upper Beach, from Nags Head North. The crabs are much better, and more of them, call me when you get down here and I can give you an idea where the crabs are being caught at that time... LOL,  Gene   cell # is 252 202 6469

Hey gene.

I am coming down there next week with my family. The last time I was down there was about 13 years ago with my family as a teenager. My most memorable time down when we went a caught our own crab off of one of the piers down there. They were two fairly large crab. We got them back to our house and they ended up getting loose on our kitchen floor. It was hilarious watching the adults chase them around the kitchen.
My
oldest daughter is excited to go crab fishing with me. I can't remember for the life of me where I was at where I was at to catch those crab. I read what was wrote about better tasting crab further north on the islands. I was wondering if I could give you a call next week to ask where the better spots are to catch some tasty crab!
That would be awesome of you.

Thanks for respondin'

Great! My wife is going to wonder how I got an inside track to a local. I'll just wink at her and say 'I'm just that kinds guy who knows people.' LOL. I am bringing down some chicken bones with meat left on them. From what I remember they are great to use for crab fishing.

Also do I need a license to crab fish down there?

So do you live there year round?

Thanks and I look forward to speaking with you when I get down there!

Yep, I live here year round, for the past 15 years, anyway. Grin.. I'm not sure about the license, you might want to check the NCDMF site for that info..

I just looked on their website. You do not need ANY kind of fishing license for shellfish.

Mr. genecrabman.

Next week, 25 Aug 08, I am bringing my family from Virginia to vacation for a week in Duck. This is our second trip to NC as we really enjoyed our first visit. HOWEVER, there was one thing I really wanted to do but couldn't because I didn't know the area, what to bring, or what to expect ... I wanted to go crabbing!!

Preparing for the trip this year, I searched the internet on NC crabbing and came across this page!! What really caught my attention was I had finally found a web site that actually talked about where to go crabbing .... and just didn't lure me in to their site promising to disclose secret crabbing spots.

I've done a lot of crabbing on both coasts and know how truly invaluable the time and advice of an area expert can be. But that was many years ago before I had children ... lots of children. This will be their first time crabbing and I'd like to make it something they'll forever remember.

I could surely use the tips, tricks, and time from an true NC crabman/expert.

Maybe I should mention besides me there are 11 crabbing trainees ranging in age from 2 to 26.

Make sure you get with Gene when you get to OBX, he will put you to work if  you want, but he will most certainly put you on some crabs!

Thanks to Gene and Goose for a great day while we were in Corolla this past July!
