It is very simple. . .  you close the crab dredge fishery altogether and pay the crabbers to catch ghost crab pots.

Oh and the survival rate is not good additionally there is a certain amount of crabs that are killed by the gear when holes are poked in their shells by the dredge and they are not caught.  The dead bycatch number is like 100% of those kept.


mmmmmmmmmmmmm.......so how many are killed and destroyed in the WDS?

He was just asking your "buddy" Tom how many were killed since the dredge is a terrible thing. 

Here is an idea.  How about August 1, the DNR runs 1200 of trotline 10 times and check the results.  The same place they do the dredge survey.
