The Chesapeake Bay Observing System bouy in the north bay resumed operations on 17 July.  At 3:30PM today:

Air Temp  -  77.9deg
Water Surf Temp  - 82.8deg
Mooring cable temp sensor (8' deep) - 80.2deg
And, unfortunately, salinity was only 0.5

Waters are warming up nicely, but the salinity level needs to get up to around 5.  On July 19, 2002 salinity was at 6.0.

So, you guys interested in crabbing the Northeast, Elk, Bohemia, and Sassafras Rivers are gonna have to wait quite some time until the salinity builds, or come on down to mid bay and join in the fun!  As a matter of fact, the contractor that's been waterproofing my basement most of today is just about finished, so I'm going crabbin'.
