The advantage of necks is that they last longer in traps. In pots, I doubt that there's any advantage. Commercial crabbers just use bunker in pots. I have no idea what I pay for bunker but I get it frozen because it's easier to handle.
I'll take your word for that. Do necks last enough longer, even in traps, to justify the difference between .50/lbs for drumsticks (40 lbs. for $20 on sale currently at my store) vs the .83/lb for necks quoted by an earlier poster? I just use whatever is cheap and easily accessible to me. And what works to attract crabs. And for hand-lines, I find the shape of a drumstick very convenient
