Reelquick,

Where in SOMERS point are you going? I'm supposed to do the Patcong tomorrow morning. I don't know w/ this weather, you know? Looks a little iffy. Crabs there are usually very big for jersey standards.

Hay ReelQuick

Don't think I'm be down this weekend, my son wants to go wakeboarding at Blue Marsh Lake.  But on the outside chance I do make it down, I'll keep my VHF on and listening for you.

How many traps do you use?  I usally only use 2 or 3 traps and lots of handline.  I think if I used more traps spread out over a larger area, I would get more crabs.  What do you do?

Also, on VHF, i got a pack of 2 HAND HELD COBRA VHF from WEST MARINE for $80.  Batteries, recharges, waterproof bags (units are only splash proof) only 2/5 watts.  I would not trust them out at sea, but for the back bays of Jersey, they seem great.  Did anyone else see this deal and what did you think?  I don't intend to replace my fix mout VHF, but for yeaping between boats and emergency backup they seem fine!

I'm actually coming back into the area in a couple of weeks, and I used to crab around Somer's point.  How was your guys luck the last few days?  Any suggestions on a good place for boat rental?  Thanks alot for any info, I haven't been crabbing in a few years so I am excited to get out there...
