Hi everyone
I caught a bushel of nice crabs in Kent Narrows.  About 2 dz jumbo, heavy and the rest med but all seemed heavy.  We got them steamed at a restaurant in Kent Narrows and I believe our crabs were switched. No jumbo's all small and lite. Has anyone else ever had this happen. I guess the only cure to this is to steam them myself. Or ask the people steaming them not to switch them.  At least then they would know that I am aware that happens and they might think twice.

Man that stinks, next time I would do it myself or take the extra 20 minutes and drive over to Wye landing and have the Schnaitmans do it for you (they steam them in front of you).

That's a shame.........unless I saw them go into and come out of the steamer, I probably wouldn't do it.

A shady restaurant can sell those jumbos for 60-80+ per dozen, plenty of incentive for them to be dishonest.

I always steam myself.

About thirty minutes until they were ready. It is a major crab house on Kent Island . I have had them done there lots of times and they were great. I hope this is just an isolated time. I feel I should not mention there name unless it happens again.

could have been an honest mistake.  A lot of the big houses run multiple steamers.

I would have been outraged, and been on the phone with the manager as soon as I noticed. Even if it was an honest mistake it would suck to go out crab all morning to have yours switched in the steamer. I am glad I steam my own, as the only crab thief in the house is my wife(and I'm cool with that). Have you called the resturant?

Kcuhc,

I spent a lot of time down there last year, all those restaurants have a lot of young kids working there. It was probably an honest mistake but I would still at least call and ask to speak with someone in charge....that stinks!!

Steaming crabs and drinking is what its all about. Beer in mouth then beer is steamer and a shot of cider viniger in steamer then more beer in mouth then hot steamed crabs and more beer in mouth.

Crabby you almost got the recipe right. It's beer in mouth, beer in pot, shot of cider in pot, shot of jack in the mouth.  Rinse and repeat as needed.     Grin

You can tell if you've had too much beer and jack when the shots of vinegar start going into your mouth instead of the pot!   laugh laugh laugh
