Is it legal in NJ to clean your crabs onboard before you get back to the dock? Used to do it back in the "olde days" and just put them in a cooler on ice.

At the end of the day, it's not about how many fish or crabs you put in the cooler but about how many memories you put in your life and the lives of your "mates".

I would not  You have to be 4.5" point to point  if you clean them you are removeing the shell  So no point to point to measure

What if you keep the shell, let's say you have 24 cleaned crabs and 24 shells measuring the legal 4.5" and above?  Just asking.

That's what ran thru my mind as was cleaning todays catch.......even a 6.75in crab cleaned is no where near 4.5.

Better make sure you only have 48 claws.   Too many people bust the claws off of shorts before tossing them back.    F&W is onto that trick...

Ronster,
Never entered my mind to take just the claws, I guess I just don't think that way. Anyway, we clean them when we get home, correction, my wife cleans the crabs, I clean the boat.  Just happen to be married to the best!!
