Tried trot line crabbing near St Michael's Md several years ago and loved it. Question, can this be done in or around Ocean City, New Jersey? Water was relatively shallow in Md and was on small boat with outboard. Don't know if this can be done in larger boat? Thanks

I don't think Jersey regs allow it it be practical.

Practical if you can make due with up to 2 lines - maximum baited length of 150' ea.  License/permit is required.

NP! Search Jersey trotline regs on the search engine here. I think you can only have 150' of baited line and maximum of 25 baits.

The stupid regulations the state has with the 150 foot 25 bait is just the beginning, finally they impose that it cant be done in the creeks has to be in the same guidelines as the commercial pots. So for me, living on the Delaware it would have to be done in the Bay.

There has been arguments to change it now for a few years.  Maybe one day.  Majority of NJ crabbers are summer vacationers and if they go out they are hand lining from piers and boats.  I don't think anyone ever really wanted to run a 1000 feet of line here.  Until I learned of this site years back I would have never even known about trapping, never mind trot lining.   Grin

can you imagine running down the bay any one  and there are several or more    500  - 1000 ft trot lines  across  the bay -   we in nj  except  for  ratian and delaware  bays   dont have  the open areas  like  md  del  -
yes  we are allowed  2 - 150 ft lines  with 25  baits  each and  they  can NOT  attached- it is is  what it is -  go
else    where  the regs  fit your needs

There are plenty of other bays and rivers where you have room to run 600' or 1000' lines.
