Crabbing is in my blood

Ignore
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:44:18 PM »

I wanna break into crabbing in places beside the barnegat bay.

The hudson is real intimidating and not producing enough by me, so Im planning on renting a boat on the Nav on sat or Sunday. I know of the marinas to check out but i have a few questions i really need help answering some of these questions were asked on monday and still no answer.

How fast do you long time nav crabbers think the 16' (cheap) skiffs will sell out. If i get there around 9am do you think i could still find the nice cheap boats still ready to be rented?

Also how is the marshier inland side of the Nav better or would i want to go closer to the ocean? I'm going to plod along for awhile but a nice spot to start (im thinking of the 20-22 bouys i've recently heard about)

but if im getting skunked and i start cruising toward inland will i be wasting my valuable time???

inland meaning west toward more freshwater.

keep in mind its gonna be warm and dry for awhile

My grandfather was an amazing crabber and passed it on to me. I wish he knew how good I would one day become.

from the reports i've been reading, it seems like the area by red bank marina is producing better than by the oceanic marina.

i've only been out once this year, and the oceanic area was pretty slow.
