I was at a Ducks Unlimited Banquet and one of the vendors who had lots of waterfowl taxidermy also had this crab on display.  He said it was a live auction item.  Pretty nice mount, the colors are a little drab.  I'm not sure I've ever had occasion to tie a leather strap to a crab before to hang it up, looks cool for ducks and game birds, a bit strange on crabs.  I didn't have a tape measure with me, but it was a big crab so I found a piece of string and marked the length; at home it came out to be 8 3/8".  The claws were huge and had a lot of knots, bumps, and barnacles on them which was cool.  Now for the capper; it went for $600 at the auction! I like Tatoo's work better, now I really appreaciate it.

For $600,  I'd just take a picture of the crab and "mount" it in my stomach... Grin laugh

it was a "charity" auction for ducks unlimited

the winner probably a doctor or lawyer, most likely gave the mount away to a friend or hung it at the beach house in the hamptons

I would value that at auction at $25

I knew guys that belonged to ducks unlimited and they drove BMW 7 series and used $6,000 krieghoff shotguns

Things go very high at Charity auctions, hence, charity.  However, that piece of wood/piling its on is awesome.

Tattoo has forgotten more about mounting crabs than I'll ever know but to me, from the picture, the color looks about right
