I wish i knew how to put pictures on the computer.  I went crabbing Saturday at Kent Narrows.  I had 2 bushel by 10:00 am.  Crabbing was great.  I have 2 crabs that are over 8 inches and 3 or 4 pushing 7.75.

Bagged this one about 1/2 hour ago in Jamaica bay, Bklyn. Took some shots then let him go.
It looks like one of his claws is a re-growth but what can ya do. Maybe I'll catch him again when he's an 8 or a 9.
He's only a 7 incher but big enough for a N.Y. record.

Well Blueclaw, it's good for a start. Where are you near, Train Bridge, Crossbay, Smitty's, sanitation dump. I got some 8 1/2 big boys around there quite a few years back. That 7" is a good sign, but that ain't holding up. I plan on crabbing one week around labor day just to get the record in NY and visit my old stomping grounds, and I think a 7 1/2 is minimal. Grin Nice Crab, Good Luck, Keep Crabbing and let's see something bigger. I need a challenge. Cool Cool Cool

Hey Joe Crabs I'm on the other end of the bay west of the MPB.
I agree with you about a 7" crab not being a true jumbo but someone
had to get the ball rolling. I live on the water so I'm always poking my nose
around the dock looking for a big boy on the poles and such.
That's the third 7 inch crab I caught this week and I haven't gone crabbing yet.
I was at a meeting last night and got home late I flicked the light on for the
dock and this guy came crawling in. I was still in my work close leaning off
the dock with a net in one hand and hanging onto the pole with the other.
He was nice enough to stay still for the pictures so I let him go.
Don't worry I plan on breaking my own record this is just a warm-up.
I welcome all competition even if it comes from JERSEY. Grin
I have a cousin in Brick NJ maybe I'll crab there also, and get
both records NY & NJ. Grin

You can crab in NJ, I don't crab here, the crabs don't do the job Grin
Been strictly MA (Wye) last three yrs. and now NC. Prior 2 was LI. LIved in NY 38 years, so I basically have crabbed everywhere from the Hamptons to the Rockaways. Your area use to have some size, havn't really followed up the past years, but I prefer East Moriches where I spent all my summers as a kid. Last year no one posted anything from NY so we appreciate that. Just want to throw some fuel in the fire, but I am going to EM in Sept. Cool Cool Cool

I wish I found this site earlier.  I've caught bigger crabs than this one.  This one is still a nice 8" crab.  It was caught this past Sunday.  I'm sure someone will beat this pretty soon.  Crabbing has been great this year.

Nice crab Tomytek.
But it looks a little strange, is it me or does that crab look very narrow?
If you look at the pic's of all the other crabs the tape measure is about 1/3 the body width even
with my little 7" crab. But your crab the tape is around half the width.
Maybe it's the way the picture came out.
Just doesn't look right.
Congrat's anyway on the nice crab.

Hey, I went through that syndrome in Jersey, thought 5's were 6's 6's were 7's, don't go bigger than that. Now the 6 1/2's seem like 6"s and the 6"'s look like 5's. And the 5 1/2's look like 4 1/2's. Just spoiled I guess. Grin

I hope so Crabguy, I need a new plaque. I am going into the lake looking for them big boys, bringing my 9' raft. Gives me a big edge over the others. Any of them big boys crawling in 2' of water are dead ducks. Grin
