Thanks all.  FWIW, I think it has to do more with luck than skill sometimes.  EJMac110 and I caught our crab in a 10" topless on the Bohemia on a tough day.  The current was ripping and the crabs bit best at slack tide.  We managed just shy of 2 bushels.  Aside from the mumbo, the next biggest crab was 6-3/4".  The mumbo must have been lost or just really hungry.

Thanks Jeff.  I didn't crab nearly half as much as I would have liked to but it just goes to show that you don't necessarily need to crab your tail off to catch a mumbo.

Thanks guys, this puts a good end to what was an otherwise horrible season!  I am actually a recreational crabber from LA, but I am originally from MD.  So I learned how to do it from the best, then I came down to do it where there are the most Smiley.  Obviously, I brought the camera and ruler with me from MD as they are apparently unavailable in LA Wink.  I keep a few crab pots and run a trotline occasionally.  I caught the big crabs (8+") early, then struggled the rest of the year to find anything large.  Theory here is we are missing the 2010 year class of crabs.  The megalops could have been killed by the BP oil and dispersant.  Then along came Isaac and that was crabbus-interruptus for me for 2012.  Thanks for running the contest and the site!
