You know Ron, the best way to learn about crabs is to ask an old Crabber.......All these Biologist have an agenda to get funding for their next study, "IMO"....When I was a kid I always crabbed with my Grandfather but a few times I went  with my Great Grandfather,I might have been 10 years old...I asked him what he thought about Biologist, he said son I'm "80something" years old and I know just about as much about these crabs now as i did when i was your age(10)..........The More these guys study the crabs the less they will find out they really know.....This conversation was 40some years ago and still holds true today....These multimillion dollar studies rarely find anything Watermen didn't already know....But these Biologist sure do make lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$....JMO...
Heck even Politics control Marylands Crabs,"Search Gov. O'Malley"  LOL........ DNR had studies saying it was the most crabs in the Bay since 93, there were going to be huge amounts of crabs in the summer and fall....Didn't happen....They got paid Millions for these studies....

Spot on Gene.... Years ago when a bunch of us from the BCA got a special tour of COMB the Biologist was all excited to tell us that they had just discovered that after a shed the crab eats parts of its discarded shell.  I told him, "[curd]. All you had to do was ask any kid that sat and watched a crab shed in a bucket to know that!"  He said, "Yes we had heard that from watermen but never saw before now."  Roll Eyes laugh

I tend not to trust Biologist....Most of em have an Agenda, or they have to make their "Boss" happy...It's all about the Money Ron....
