We've been going to OBX for many years.  I'm from NJ and crab every year on the Navesink.  NJ has a lot of places to rent row boats, or with a small motor.

Any places in OBX to do that?  I'd like to go out for the day and get at least a bushel...

thanks....

Thanks.  I see that you are the man to see about buying crabs as well.  May have to hit you up when we are down there in Aug.

Good luck trying to find a rental.  I am also from NJ, and used to go to Somer's Point, Ventnor, Ocean City, etc.  All day rental was less than a hundred bucks.  Here, 8 hours is considered "all day" and they want $200, $300.  It's crazy.  Very difficult to take the kids fishing or crabbing.  If you find something reasonable please let me know.

I'm no expert but, I've been going down to Corolla the past few years though I bring my own boat.  The Whalehead club http://www.whaleheadclub.org/ has plenty of spots where folks are crabbing from shore and they usually catch a few.  I've done well in the Currituck sound from the boat.

It depends where you are going to in OBX as to what will work best.  I found this place in Kitty Hawk where they'll rent you a 14' Carolina Skiff (the same boat as I have) but as Markotto said, it can be a bit pricy, 4 hours for $125 and $225 for the full day.  They have a bunch of other options to rent too.

Yes, I did see the price for the place in Nag's Head.  WOW!  I spend $55 for a row boat on the Navesink; $80 for a boat/motor.  I might spend more on vacation but then I won't have my gear, which I will need to rent, won't know where to go, etc.
