The crabs from the south have a funny accent. Grin (Sorry, had to do it, welcome to the board, BTW)

No difference other than that.

As a unrecontructed Southerner I can speak with authority that Southern Crabs speak the King's English.  :laugh:In the summer our crabs have a hint of mint julep taste. Shocked Now y'alls crabs probabbly have taste of all of that waste that flows into  the Chesapeake Bay. You know that stuff that is abundant in Washington, D.C. Grin

I have never had a fresh crab from the gulf.  The Louisiana crabs that I have tasted lack the texture of Chesapeake bay crabs and the flavor is certainly different, imo.  Crabs from seaside taste a lot different from bay crabs.

It seems everyone agrees that genetically they are the same.

They differ due to their environment and diet.

Like Vidalia onions.

I would like bushels of each sent to me so that I can further continue my experiments.  As payment, for your kindness - your name will featured in my next book. Which will also be my first book.  laugh laugh laugh

Well the proof is in the $$$$, Somehow I don't think there are alot of people paying $100+ a bushel for Gulf crabs. I have always heard people ask for Maryland or Chesapeake Bay crabs. I haven't heard someone ask Are they Gulf Crabs. And there is a good reason for that, the tase and they are cleaner. ::)With all the runoff of silt and [curd] out of that Missisppi river, the oil, and all that swamp sludge they want to talk about the Chesapeake Bay.  laugh I guess I know not to try the Mint Julep. laugh

I hate to be a bearer of bad news. Sad Crabbers here in McIntosh County send about two 18 wheeler loads of crabs to the Maryland every week.  ;DThose famous Chesapeake crabs are really Georgia crabs. laugh Enjoy our crabs the next time y'all are at a crab house on the Eastern Shore.

No bad news,  my crab house is my own catch chesapeake crabs all summer and have enough meat vac packed for the winter.  Those places you are refering to like " Phillips" also serve jap crab, but that's ok because they are tourist traps for the out of towners! Wink  Although I am glad that the crab consumption in my state is so high  that it contributes to employment in your county and supports the Ga. economy!! thumbsup thumbsup laugh laugh

... and more importantly, the AMERICAN economy.  Phillips, the red-headed stepchild that it is, claims Maryland "style" seafood.  Key word: style.  Vietnamese whitefish... MD Crabmeat.... its all the same Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry
