Myself and 2 friends will be renting a boat for crabbing in Dividing Creek next week. How early can you be on the water in a rental? How should we prepare for bugs worst case? Is it worth it to take a fishing rod
? We have 8 box traps and 8 hand lines for crabbing. For bait we are taking salted mud shad (left over turtle bait,) along with chicken backs and necks. Should the traps be scattered around on floats? I have one commercial pot - worth taking? Thanks for the help.

leave the pot at home. scrap the salted bait and stick w/ chicken or bunker. rental opens at 6am. head down stream as far as the rentals are permitted. crab in 5 to 8 feet of water. if it where me, I would scatter the traps around, and sit and use the hand lines while the traps soak. checkem at least every half hr or you will just be feedingem. tide must be moving, but be careful, curents can be strong there. take 2 to 4 oz sinkers with you to hold the bottom.
