What is this and the similar looking areas I pass by on my way to nj shore?

Something to do with mining/wastewater disposal?

My grandfather was an amazing crabber and passed it on to me. I wish he knew how good I would one day become.

Looks like a sand wash. Basically a hole that's left after they mine sand.

 that's an area in Bayville   where  sand and gravel  was mined  for a co  that  made bagged a concrete product
 called  sackcrete ----  a young man  18yrs   drowned there last  wk      very sad

Here is a spot at Turkey Point that is EASY to understand as far as sand mining....1st is 1995, 2nd 2002 and 2006...Hope they post that way??  ....btw, in the 2006 pic, you can see crabbers that were towed out from Beaver Dam...The Big Pinhead and JH might be in that pic...
