In a way yes it is,I pondered this question for a while, then looked for other views from other people, and I came to the conclusion that it varies how many we need. This past weekend my goal was close to 3 bushels and fortunately I got them,I wasn't being piggish, fri I split close to 2 with a guy,sat I went out for a friends party and kept none.Next weekend my needs will be totally different.I may not crab,so in a way it's a track question with no set answer. How many do you need,Tom ?
I usually go for a bushel but am ok with a couple dozen. Every time I go, it's a party at my house. When I catch more than I personally need, I share them with friends, family, and neighbors and make their day with fresh crabs. Nothing ever goes to waste.

Tom ,I think as long as they're not going to waste and we're within our legal limits we should catch all we can.I have many people willing to take them off of my hands.

Best investment for any freezing, beef, pork, veggies, fish, crab, anything worth freezing is worth using a vacuum sealer!!!
I've found the sealer handy for protecting stuff from the elements, I.E.: Vacuum sealing a spare prop keeps it free from all
the gunk that could foul the hub:

Bruce, step back from the sealer, you might wanna look into a 12 step program to get over this obsession.I'm picturing a house full of sealed everything.Could this be a new Realty series, addicted to vaccum sealing ??

I've noticed and wondered the same thing.
Three dozen is almost too many for me, my spouse, and my neighbors across the street, so when I see stories of people taking home a bushel every week it makes me wonder.
The best question to ask is, "Am I fairly using the resource, or taking advantage of it?"

Everyone utilizes their catch differently.
To me it's a much simpler question that needs to be asked. "Will all the crabs in my basket today be utilized and consumed, or is there a chance that some of them may go to waste?"

Well, if they go to waste, then it's sort of taking advantage of the resource, but yeah, that's a good one, too.
I always just wonder how people go through so many crabs.
They probably have more friends than I do!!

See my post at the beginning of this thread. It should shed some light on the mystery for you.
