The one to the far right in that photo is a KCrabpot's trap.   I think I might know who that belongs to, as one of the crews who participated in the Assault on Patcong Creek bought 10 off him prior to the event.    Looked like it had been there a good while.    Exposed when the tide went out.

That blue one probably wasn't down there two long.

The two in the middle belong to Walt Witt (Capt. Walt) and Mike Higgings (crewstation) respectively.

I don't know, Ron.  If that third one was mine, it should have a crab or two in it.  Just sayin'....

God this brings back memories of me and my step-brother finding/snagging traps in Great Kills Harbor as young guys. I think we had at one point like 20 traps in garage, only 3 or 4 of which we bought.   laugh laugh

At the end of the day, it's not about how many fish or crabs you put in the cooler but about how many memories you put in your life and the lives of your "mates".

He looks sad to have gotten his trap back.  Maybe he was expecting crabs to be returned too?  laugh

Walt's a good guy, even if he feels the need to second and third guess me on crabbing locations and techniques.

I just don't understand how people keep losing their gear like they do. Had a couple of floats in front of the house about 3 weeks ago - I thought someone had dropped a couple of illegal crab pots. They sat there for over a week and the next time I came back in on the boat I pulled them up to see - just regular traps, short, 4 door vinyl with floats with NO name. They go really quick at a yard sale!

Got that right.   That's what typically happens with the stuff I salvage when I can find the original owners.

There are plenty of areas in NJ where the sea grass or other growth clumps in the water.  It takes your float underwater in a second.

I also crab with my 74-year-old father whose eyesight is getting worse every day.  He runs over a few over the course of the season.

The second reason is somewhat of a concern to me.  I feel quilty every time I lose a trap.  Don't care about the loss, I'll just make more this winter, but I do care about the possibility of the line/trap eventually tangling up on someone else's prop.  Getting better at avoiding it each time I go out.

You should head across the bay.  Hit fowlers Beach on the Delaware side.  I saw about 10 comm pots lining the shore at lowtide.

Do these belong to anyone from these forums?   Found them out on the creek in a couple of far flung spots today.

I've found many crab nets in Lake Pontchartrain before.  Here thunderstorms blow up fast and before you know it the winds are 20+ and you don't have time or the waves get to high and boom they're lost.
