Coming to corolla in July. Usually spend the day crabbing off piers in collington, manteo, and oregon inlet areas. Usually catch a couple dozen and then just buy a bushel from gene on the way back. Still plan on hitting gene up this year but was thinking of changing it up. Was thinking of renting a canoe or kayak  and launching at the whalehead club or duck town center and paddling out in the currituck with hand lines and a few topless traps. Would this be better than what we have done in years past?  If so do you just throw your line any where, stick to the shore, grasslike, etc....  Never crabbed from a boat so any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've been down there the past couple of years and the Whalehead club is great.  I brought my boat and launched from there and have done well.  Plenty of areas to crab from shore and the rental Kayaks can get you into some great spots.   I have reports posted from my past trips there.
