Does anyone know where I can buy pot irons (1/2 or 3/8) on or relatively close to the outer banks? I need about 150 or 160 of them.

Irons or Frames are re-bar that is secured to the base of a MD style crab pot to act as a anchor...

mike keller does not carry irons, if he did they would be $14 a piece, Jeff Thompson, or Mayos in Scranton.

$12.95 if you buy 100
Mayos (252)926-8601 should have 3/8 irons for around $3.50 each.

I might have some larger than 3/8's if interested. Not sure how many, we tied them in groups of 10 but hidden in the weeds and behind stuff at moment. Also I would say Mayo's prolly has the cheapest ones around other than doing it yourself. Could check Eddy Heath in Crisfield, Md if willing to travel.

you can buy rebar at your local mason in 20ft lengths - they will cut them to the length or have some one do it- say 20 inches long - sip tie to the bottom of you pots it comes in 1/4--3/8--/1/2 in and bigger I thought thats what you meant I have them on my pots

The one reason I use irons (we call them frames here on the Shore), especially on peeler pots is to provide strength. They keep the pots square and help with stacking them. Two bottom side of the pots don't have bracing wire the way I do them so the "frame" ties the bottom/bracing wire of the pot together. That way I save on 2 26" pieces of bracing wire. Of course anchoring the pots is the first reason. Without irons, the pots are everywhere after a storm....
