Yep at idle i don't burn much either, it's the 12 to 20 mile run each way wide open that burns all my gas. Roll Eyes

4 strokes are great for idling - two stroke tend to back up at low speed.
Two strokes were not designed for low speed running for any length of time.
Hondas are great motors.

Now back in my younger days when i could work all day and go gig flounder all night, i had a 50 hp merc. that was 4 cilinders and i could idle it for 10 hrs and never foul a plug. great motor, put over 5000 hrs on it

How do you think I feel I run a 1972 pointer with a 1982 merc 90 6 cyl i run about 4000-6000 feet a day and still burn about 15 gal no matter what. Dam I need a new motor. If anyone knows anyone that has a 75-90 4stroke for sale and can take cash/payments/barter ect please let me know.

for those using diesel inboards you should think about running used cooking oil.theres very minor mods to the engine.fitration and flexible fuel lines.this in turn would cut your fuel costs to 0.well maybe a few miles to the places to collect the oil,but as far as the boat,its free.
