Recently the "Natural Resources Defense Council" issued a report about beach water quality in New Jersey, and named their so-called list of 10 worst beaches for water quality.    Somers Point's municipal beach, which sits on the bay where many of us crab, was listed as #5 on the list.    We went and pulled the county water test results, and found that every weekly test had come up with the highest rating they give, which is excellent.

Anyway, unlike the other towns that appeared in the report, Somers Point went on the offensive yesterday and denounced the report and the NRDC.

That makes sense since most of the waterways down there are good for year-round clamming, and there are extensive tests done for that. Good for you.

Remember, half of the time you see me, you are coming in and I am going out.  My customers are on vacation and I work around their schedules - which means later starts and consequently, hot sun.  I would look like bacon from a diner fire if I did not wear the head sock.

Plus, having seen the pictures on this site, I am not the only one with a face suited for covering up. Cheesy

SPF50 will serve the same purpose and not make you look as if you are about to rob a bank.     Wink

1.  It sweats off and if you get it on your hands and then the bait, you will catch nothing.  But maybe that is all part of your master plan to dominate the crabbing world.....

2.  It does nothing to add to the mystique of the trip.

Yeah, I have that problem all the time with not catching crabs after using sunscreen.     Roll Eyes   laugh

Plus I don't trust all the chemicals.  I am still young enough that if they discover this stuff is bad for you in 20 years, I'll be missing out.

Hopefully the toxins in the dyes used by the overseas garment factory to color that facemask fabric won't get you instead.     Wink

I'll give you kudos on the long sleeve shirt.   I always crab wearing long sleeves.

Getting this back on point, here is a very comprehensive and accurate article about the Somers Point beach/bay water controversy.    Kudos to NJ Spotlight for doing their homework and printing both sides and the full story.
