Striped Bass Management Hearings Scheduled In September

Three hearings to gather public comment on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's proposed management options for Striped Bass have been scheduled in New Jersey. The  NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife strongly encourages the public to attend these meetings in order to assist managers in the management of this precious resource.

In addition, the Division urges striped bass anglers who fish the Delaware River, and are unable to make any of the New Jersey hearings, to attend the hearing hosted by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

It's a NJ DEP email that came out today.   He's sharing it with the group.

This is such a load of government [curd].  Basically, in there own words....
"In 2012, the Atlantic striped bass stock was not overfished or experiencing overfishing relative to the new reference points defined in the 2013 benchmark assessment."

So what are they going to do?  Come up with a new mortality standard that ensure the recreational fishery does not kill more fish.  Interestingly, they are trying to set the mortality level standard as it was in 2012......when Hurricane Sandy kept most people from striper fishing for weeks, if not all season!

Take the time and struggle through the report.  For all the acronyms it says nothing and anyone having seen Perry Mason could tear a hole in it and embarrass them.  They want to (again) set levels and standards without any hard count or science behind it.
