Downtown Jacksonville
Chicken legs
Handlines
5-6' water
off a dock
i went out Sunday, as the tide was going out. using handlines, i caught 4 keepers 5.5"+ and a good bit of throwbacks in the 4-5" range. Sunday morning was the coldest it has been since last winter, temp was 50 degrees. not sure of water temp at the time, but im assuming still warm since daily temps are 80+ degrees.
I put a trap out at the doc Saturday morning, baited with turkey necks. Trap produced 3 keepers on the 24 hour soak.
I left the trap there when i left (a secluded doc). Came back today (10/7/14) at lunch. 50 hr soak appox baited with the left over chicken from Sundays excursion. only 1 small crab. I think someone poached the trap. However, i pulled the trap, released the small one, and dropped the trap back in. As i started to walk away, a mumbo surfaced and swam to a piling and remained about 1' from the surface. I didnt have my net, but some there fishing had a dip net. laying down on the doc, i was able to net him. 7" rusty male. pic to follow

Nice that you got a big one. All my creeks have been flooded. When there are storms off the coast and bigger waves, the water is pushed way up into the creeks. It's like a 24 hour high tide. I need low tides so the crabs are concentrated into the channel. It's been that way for nearly 6 weeks now. I went two weeks ago and got 8 over a 3 hour period. Nearly all of them were light, with a lot of watery meat after steaming them. Hanging it up until next spring. I hope you keep getting em for a few more weeks.

Blue crabbing has been real slow near me in Edgewater. It has been slow since the middle of September. I did get one 5.5 inch keeper today.
I have been doing well with Stone Crabs though! I'll post a report and pics soon.
