DNR is currently scoping the possibility of extending the commercial oyster season for 2 weeks to allow for the watermen to try to make up some of the time lost due to being frozen in.  Go to the fisheries page to read about the possibilities and to comment.  I think the guys should have the opportunity to oyster longer, since they have been iced in for at least the last 2 weeks.  Here's a link to the scoping page

The following ia shared from the Maryland Seafood facebook page.  This is what happens when regulations force watermen to work when it is unsafe to do so in order to make a living.  https://www.facebook.com/MarylandSeafood

On Tuesday March 3, 2015 around 9:45AM, Capt Butch Baker and his crew lost the "Nancy Carol" near Love Point in an effort to make a living during this difficult time for watermen. Fortunately Butch and his crew were able to jump onto the surrounding ice and board the Bri-Stef with Capt. Don Pierce. No one was hurt!

As you enjoy Maryland Seafood products, please keep in mind that there are people out there risking their lives to make a living and provide you with the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay.

A fund has been set up to help get Butch back on the water:
