Well I am a little disappointed but not discouraged. Caught 4 keeper crabs using deep traps in 15'. Beautiful day to be on the water. Boat ran good for first time out

4 isn't so bad. My goal next weekend is 12.  Cheesy
Did you try any traps in shallow depths?

Considering I didn't see a report of 4 crabs from the Chester last year, I'd say it's something to think about.

I lived on the Cheater River for 25 years. Kept my boat at the Cloverfeilds Marina. Use to be great crabbing on the Chester. Would like to hear Chester River reports. Also great rock fishing. Living in Federalsburg now. Just moved there from FL. Have to learn how to Crab and fish the Marshy Hope Creek now, But not getting any hits/Info. on my post. Really like this web site.

Do you usually go off of Water temp for when you start to hit the Chester River hard or is it just based on migration and reports. Last year we bought a house on the Chester and I have only crabbed during peak season when everyone else is already catching crabs I have never tried it early

Hi slickcav, Your lucky to have a house on the Chester River. IMHO you could give it a early try, but might be a little early. I didn't crab much, and when we did it was just with the kids off the pier with necks on a string. I was/am a fisherman. Fished for rock for about 25-30 years. I'm sure someone will help you out with the crabbing on the Chester River. I do know it is good crabbing on the Chester, and the Chester crabs taste great.

I've crabbed the Chester for 15 years since I was a kid. But like I said it was always "July 4th" ish when we would try them here.

I'm sorry, I didn't know you crabbed the Chester since you were a kid. I guess you live way up river. I lived down river near the Kent Narrows. Thanks!

I have crabbed the Chester for about 15 years now. I have found that I don't do well until after the 4th of July. Just my experience.

Living here now I am just half anxious to get a few dozen crabs even if I have to work for em ya know? But yeah dads taken me here since a kid, last few years ive done it on my own, but again emphasis on late season... never tried it earlier in the season.
