Hello
My family is going to Kiptopeke State Park, VA for crabbing for 2 days on the first week of July.
I am from NC so I don't really know about regulations in VA.
While I was searching, I've read that I don't need any license for crabbing in VA. I just need to register my info, but is this right?
My family will be crabbing at late night and also early in the morning around 2 a.m. using flash lights in the water and with a crab pot from the pier.
This is our first try crabbing so I don't really know about it.
I know there are size regulations.
Is there also regulation in how many I catch?
and anyone tried crabbing at the Kiptopeke State Park?
It is our first time travelling to VA.. Smiley
Please let me know if you know about my questions.
Thanks!

You do need a VA fishing license to fish....  You do not need an license to Rec crab with hand lines, collapsible traps and each person can use 2 commercial pots. You are limited to 1 bushel of crabs per person or 1 bushel/boat. You should do well at Kiptopeke.  You will probably catch more Sooks (female crabs) then males.  Fishing can be very good down there.............. Cool  PS... Welcome to the BCA forum....

Thank you so much for your answer!!
You mean 1 bushel per day right?
Do you recommend crabbing during night?
I think my family will be crabbing whole night  laugh
As you said, if I catch more female crabs, I need to check the size, right?
Thank you again!

No size limits exist for adult female hard crabs (sooks) [Code 28.2-708, Regulation 4 VAC 20-270-55]. http://www.mrc.state.va.us/regulations/recfish&crabrules.shtm

Crab when ya feel like it.... Night or day...  Cool
