I don't know what my health will be like at the time.  Right now I can barely walk because of my recent back surgery.  If I'm in better health by the time you come, I can show you how I fish for crabs in the Packery Channel.  That area is near where I live and that's about 37 miles from Rockport, if you take the ferry.

On the other hand, SwimmerL is has a commercial license and crabs in the Nueces Bay area near Portland.  That's about 23 miles from Rockport.  I don't know if he would be willing to take you on a day trip, but you could ask him.  He's a member of this board.

There's a place in Seadrift, TX that's about 49 miles North of Rockport.  It has a place named Seasonal Seafood.  They're a co-op for crabs.  They buy crabs from all of the crab fishermen and resell them to restaurants.  They sell softshell crabs, stone crab claws, and crab meat retail and wholesale.  We occasionally buy from them.

A few doors down from them is a guy that builds crab traps for professional crabbers.  What's nice is that he has parts and supplies you might need for building traps.  He has the floats and other stuff you might need.

I know only one good seafood restaurant in Seadrift.  That's Barketts's: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Seadrift,+TX/Rockport,+TX/@28.4152018,-96.7134586,21z/data=!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x8669e72cd421c833:0x199da646a7f0b1b4!2m2!1d-96.7135933!2d28.4152807!1m5!1m1!1s0x8669b360f7711387:0x6cea20360a83961c!2m2!1d-97.0544341!2d28.0205733

When are you headed down? I spent a lot of summers down there as a kid. We used to walk in the salt grass pulling a metal tub. Sometimes we would scoop up enough crabs to fill the tub. I drove through Rockport last year and it has changed. I could not find the place we used to go scoop crabbing.

I see you found the big crabs at the ski basin. You sure picked a hot week to come down. Enjoy your stay.

Good to see a photo of you at Rockport.  Smiley Hope you catch a lot of crabs.

Try and stay cool since it was 104 degrees at my home yesterday and I live 90 miles from the Gulf of Mexico on the upper Texas coast (Galveston Bay complex).

BTW, this is Texas. You're going to need a bigger net.  Wink

You'd have to have been awake to have actually seen one.
