I'm not suggesting, I'm telling you that it works......now you don't have to believe me, you don't have to try it and you can spend the rest of your life on internet crabbing boards advocating your distain for the use of bleach in a closed loop soft crabbing system.....but again, don't insult me.

Sorry if I  offended you buddy but I don't drink bleach in my well water I live in the swamp lands north of New Orleans and the amount of bleach that is in city water is no where near the concentration of pouring in a cup of bleach into a 500 gallon closed loop system of course the skimmer would go crazy making bubbles its trying to pull the bleach out of a system I in no way intended to offend you just suggest that befor you suggest to a novice that is looking to improve there knowledge of a certain subject you make sure you your self have all the facts and understand the concequencess of your "suggestion" could cost her thousands of dollars in dead catch

Bleach is typically 3% chlorine.

3% of a cup? 0.24 ounces.

Ounces in a gallon? 128.

0.24 ounces in 500 gallons? 3.75 parts per million.

What were you saying about concentration?  laugh

CONVERTING HOUSEHOLD BLEACH TO PARTS PER MILLION OF AVAILABLE CHLORINE
Typical household bleach contains approximately 5.25% chlorine which is free to react with water during the disinfection process. When performing shock disinfection of a water system it is important to use enough chlorine to achieve approximately 50 ppm (parts per million). If you use too little bleach you may not eliminate the bacteriological contaminants. If you use too much chlorine you will create a taste and odor problem, which is hard to correct and may form cancer causing trihalomethanes.

Now if you want to kill all the good bacteria on your "bio balls " or on your clam shell filter by all means go ahead add the bleach again I in no way insulted this man. I just said DO NOT ADD BLEACH you should be using RODI or reverse osmosis de ionized water to fill your tanks to get all chloromines out as well as any other contaminants your city water may have fluorides along with all the other [curd] in New Orleans water here is the city water report for 2014
This is why a RODI filter should be used instead of your city water

....if your crabs are dying, it doesn't sound like there is any bacteria on your bio-balls or clam shells anyway.

Rid-X is bacteria...in a box. Test your water before adding it and then test it after adding it. Let me know if it works
