I'll be in Bethany Beach in late September and would like to try crabbing at the Love Creek Bridge.  My questions are, is the bridge low enough for handlines or are traps the preferred method?  Also, does the area hold crabs that late in September?

Thanks

Some of us did really well last year late Sept and into mid Oct. You can check out the posts from last year to get an idea.

The bridge is too high for hand lines, so you will need traps. For me personally, I found that bunker worked better then chicken and you need at least 15 foot of rope to get you to the water, but I used 25 to 30 foot rope on my traps last year and that helped me to get the traps into areas close to the bridge and also far away from the bridge which I seemed to catch more crabs away from the bridge.

The bridge can get very crowded so plan accordingly. I personally would try to get there at day break, but some crabbers have done well mid day to late afternoon and not too crowded. Also, you will need to pay for parking and do not park next to the bridge or near the boat ramp.

Good luck.
